HOW IT STARTED
Once upon a time, not too long ago, in a faraway land, Ariel Harris was born. In elementary school while attending the 2nd grade. She had many deficits, cognitive, behavioural, and social. Her undiagnosed auditorial processing disability prevented her from recognizing the alphabet or reading properly. So, in an effort to break this generational cycle, her mother paid a 1-on1 tutor to help her learn how to read.
The JDI, however, was not awakened within them until while she was studying for the bar exam with their friends, they saw the light; they received the transmission; they understood the assignment. You see, Ariel—the 2nd grade Ariel who was shamed and treated differently because of her cognitive deficits—went through what she went through so she could grow and help others with similar deficits. That 2nd grade experience and her entire K-12 experience is what promulgated her into teaching.
As a 5th grade Math teacher, they acquired the skill they would later need as a law school teaching assistant and as the JDI. Ariel learned to create data-driven instruction, identify student’s cognitive abilities and deficits, and to provide 1-on-1 intervention based on each child’s needs. Here is where The JDI is groomed and cultivated in the classroom. The love for helping and seeing people grow and reach their academic goals was always there. The JDI then attended Law School and became a teacher assistant for torts, legal writing, and contracts.
One day—while studying for the Texas Bar Exam—Ariel began teaching concepts to her classmates, and here’s where she received the transmission to start a 1-on-1 tutoring business for JD Students studying for the bar exam. It really wasn’t until her 2nd exam (studying for the Louisiana Bar Exam) in which she taught concepts, created strategies for a friend who was sitting for their 2nd time, that they realized they had the capacity to learn and teach and create in a way that can aid individuals in passing the bar exam. At the time, we did not understand this. Now we do! That friend who sat for the bar exam the 2nd time around, passed. And there is where The JDI realized their true power.
